Home

Welcome to the new Website, expect lots of changes in the coming days. I understand that there are small errors on some browsers, but hopefully Yahoo will help me work out the bugs, or I will find someone who will.

For now, this is the place to explore the things that I have to offer. Mostly I want to give you a contact page, and some images to see of things that I have done and what I am doing now. Also, a very exciting new chapter is the opening of the wood turning school! It is early days for this, but starting on Labor day the first student passed through the doors and the feedback has been wonderful. Lots of calls on this so I can only see it expanding and getting better.

A new feature is the Wood Log, a list of what is currently available for sale.

What I Do

In a nutshell, I build things. My background is in furniture design and building, I have expanded that to include woodturning, which has pretty much taken over much of my working day. I also have a penchant for stone sculpting and would jump at the opportunity to do larger projects. I work from my own workshop on a commission basis. I do offer wholesale options to genuine retail outlets.

I am a Craftsman. That statement says a lot for me. Yes, I am an artist too, but on the most familiar scale I am a craftsman. I make furniture, wood turn both functional and decorative items. I teach wood turning. I sculpt both wood and stone. My intent as the maker is important to me. I try to bring this intent, this same feeling and set of skills to everything I do throughout the day. I make things well, with a thought toward good design and pleasing use. I try to make things that will last, that will have a life of their own after I am gone. Sometimes whimsical, often practical, but always honest.

What's New?

Lots of new things happening here!

  • Moved to England, now I am back.
  • I got married! Nov.19 2005 in Devon England to Catherine Tanner.

  • Finally got the visas necessary to get everyone back here in Colorado. Now Catherine, Caitlin and I are happily ensconced back in Salida.
  • Big changes around the house.... a new barn, enormous porch across the front of the house, new sewer line, siding the house.... will it ever end?
  • Big News.... the start of the Keith Gotschall wood turning  school!
  • The long bed extension is now in place. This gives me the capability of turning 12 feet long! Porch posts and columns up to 16 inches square can be turned to match your pattern, or new work can be designed. Contact me with questions or to get more information.
  • I am starting to contact the galleries I worked with before moving to England, to let them know I am back and gearing up for production again. I am listing new items in the Wood Log. Some furniture commissions will also be  accepted.
  • While in England I took the time to write a book on woodturning. Sterling is the publisher I have been working with, and they currently have the manuscript. I will pass on information when I get it.
